Dad returned from his tour of duty and: Veronica, Frank Jr., Mari, Lauren - (from left)

4 Kids Later - 1950s - a very Merry Christmas

Like all families we have our share of odd Uncles, strange Aunts, and wacko 60s hold-outs :D But the histories and traditions of a Northern USA family vs. a Southern USA family is quite ummmmm - intense lol.

I see where you get your beauty Mari.   This woman, this true NC Southern Belle,
reminds me of my mother is these sepia photos.

And your dad, what a dashing thing!  Fort Bragg is not that far.   Love these old pictures.

They were a dashing couple in their time! We spent our growing up summers in NC and winters in CT where we were schooled. Love that southern cooking!! :D

We lost Mom so suddenly - it was a horrible shock. Within 2 hours she was gone. I still get tearful and I'm 65. Loosing ones Mom is so tough! Dad too. Thank you, Jess xxoo

It would have been hard for any 21 year old guy to leave such a young and beautiful bride behind.

Yes Jim. They were married for a very short time before Dad was sent to different areas in Europe including Germany. He was a front line infantry medic. When I was about 14 I found an old shoe box of love letters tied with a blue ribbon. Most were the letters Dad sent home, many were letters he'd managed to keep from Mom and bring back. Sadly, I don't know what ever happened to them but Dad suffered post-traumatic problems like many soldiers and I think all war reminders were removed from the house. What a wonderful legacy those would be along with the old photos. Sorry for the long reply.

Thank you Kriti. I am slowly getting my old photos upload to my computer and backed up to CD so my kids will have them. :D

We did. Camping, fishing, holidays were all special. I still love to trout fish when I visit my brother. :D

I love old family photos. I have some dating back to the Victorian Era and quite a few old family tintypes. The oldest always have the man sitting regally and the woman obediently standing behind him. How things have changed for most cultures.

Thanks Jim. I loved your post also.

Mom and Dad met very romantically. Dad, from Connecticut, was stationed at Ft. Bragg, Fayetteville, North Carolina for military training. Mom was from  Fayetteville. Dad saw her shopping with her girlfriends and manged to find out where she lived. He started "courting" her. Her dad had a fit! She was young and Dad was a Damn Yankee. They courted and like many military couples decided to get married before Dad was shipped out. They eloped and my grand-dad went looking for them with his shotgun in tow, hoping to head off the wedding and scare my Dad off. When Dad returned from the war, my grand-parents very quickly learned to love my Dad.  I have years of wonderful memories of family get togethers. I guess I should have put this in my post :D

Yes indeed - many great memories!

It was very nice to see your Parents' pictures. They both look very handsome. Sounds like a little WWWII romantic movie the way both of them met. You had an eye on the camera even when you were little :D

Twitting and stumling.

It was romantic, wasn't it. I wish I had thought to put the story in my post. Oh well. And I did like mugging for the camera :D
