After much deliberation I chose Love Poems by Pablo Neruda.
Pablo Neruda’s poems are
charged with fiery sensuality and eroticism. His words create passionate images
of love and loss.
As a photographer and
digital artist this book is my favorite “go to” book when I’m creating digital
art. His words inspire my creative juices
and motivate me to produce some of my finest digital art. I hope you enjoy his poetry and my digital art both:
The Queen (La Reina)
I have named you queen.
There are taller than you, taller.
There are purer than you, purer.
There are lovelier than you, lovelier.
But you are the queen.
There are purer than you, purer.
There are lovelier than you, lovelier.
But you are the queen.
When you go through the
streets
No one recognizes you.
No one sees your crystal crown, no one looks
At the carpet of red gold
That you tread as you pass,
The nonexistent carpet.
No one recognizes you.
No one sees your crystal crown, no one looks
At the carpet of red gold
That you tread as you pass,
The nonexistent carpet.
And when you appear
All the rivers sound
In my body, bells
Shake the sky,
And a hymn fills the world.
All the rivers sound
In my body, bells
Shake the sky,
And a hymn fills the world.
Only you and I,
Only you and I, my love,
Listen to me.
Only you and I, my love,
Listen to me.
The Dream (El Sueño)
Walking on the sands
I decided to leave you.
I was treading a dark clay
that trembled
and I, sinking and coming out
decided that, you should come out
of me, that you were weighing me down
like a cutting stone,
and I worked out your loss
step by step:
to cut off your roots,
to release you alone into the wind.
Ah in that minute,
my dear, a dream
with its terrible wings
was covering you.
You felt yourself swallowed by the clay,
and you called to me, and I did not come,
you were going, motionless,
without defending yourself
until you were smothered in the quicksand.
Afterwards my decision encountered in your dream,
and from the rupture,
that was breaking our hearts
we came forth clean again, naked,
loving each other
without dream, without sand,
complete and radiant,
sealed by fire.
next to the sea, on the island.
Wild and sweet you were between pleasure and sleep,
between fire and water.
Wild and sweet you were between pleasure and sleep,
between fire and water.
Perhaps very late
our dreams joined
at the bottom,
up above like branches moved by a common wind,
down below like red roots that touch.
our dreams joined
at the bottom,
up above like branches moved by a common wind,
down below like red roots that touch.
Perhaps your dream
drifted from mine
and through the dark sea
was seeking me
as before,
when you did not yet exist,
when without sighting you
I sailed by your side,
and your eyes sought
what now –
bread, wine, love, and anger –
I heap upon you
because you are the cup
that was waiting for the gifts of my life.
drifted from mine
and through the dark sea
was seeking me
as before,
when you did not yet exist,
when without sighting you
I sailed by your side,
and your eyes sought
what now –
bread, wine, love, and anger –
I heap upon you
because you are the cup
that was waiting for the gifts of my life.
I have slept with you
all night long while
the dark earth spins
with the living and the dead,
and on waking suddenly
in the midst of the shadow
my arm encircled your waist
neither night nor sleep
could separate us.
all night long while
the dark earth spins
with the living and the dead,
and on waking suddenly
in the midst of the shadow
my arm encircled your waist
neither night nor sleep
could separate us.
I have slept with you
and on waking, your mouth,
come from your dream,
gave me the taste of earth,
of sea water, of seaweed,
of the depths of your life,
and I received your kiss
moistened by the dawn
as if it came to me
from the sea that surrounds us.

Mari, I am speechless. This is a beautiful and sensual post. Brava!!
I love the poetry of Pablo Neruda. Did
you ever see the movie about him - can’t recall the name; was it The Postman? And your digital art is just exquisite!
I saw the movie twice - I love it! In Italian it's called II Postino (The Postman). Thank you for the compliment on my digital art.
Yes, he is sensual!! I love his work.
Thanks David. It took me all week to decide on which book - I love so many. This gave me a chance to do something different :D
The first one is my favorite also. Finding the perfect image, then turning it into digital art takes time but it's fun :D
Mari, I too love Pablo Neruda's poems and am inspired by his work. Loved The Dream and the photographs accompanying your lovely post.

Hi Kriti - I'm starting a site to share my digital art with the Ladies Group poets. It will be lots of fun.
I love Whitman too. He's certainly at the opposite end of the spectrum from Neruda. :D
The first one is my favorite too. The rythmn in that one is captivating.

cooking varieties(wan) has left a new comment on your post "One Lovely Blog Award": hi mari, congrats for winning the stylish blogger award. ..It very much describes your blog and your amazingly beautiful photography works.. The poem is so lovely and a bit tense at the later part and just fine in the end. Thanks for sharing your inspiration from this book, great pick.
This is beautiful and Pablo Neruda is breathtaking. "where I does not exist nor you. So close that your hand on my chest is my hand, so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep." Sigh. Right, I'm rambling. Thank you for this moment and for joining the blog tour.
Cheers - Dora

Ckata54 Simply beautiful. My son is taking Advertising and just about getting into photography, would like to link your blog to his fb? So many things he can learn from here. I too love photography, however more on potraits, as I love to catch the facial features and expressions.
Among the poets I truly like... Nerudas... my brother introduced me to his works...
Coupled with the images, his poems become graphically erotic ;)... loved your choice of poems and blogs to explore ... I always have something new to learn from you..THANK YOU!
I would like to read the poems in Spanish. Thank you for sharing!
You can find them online in Spanish by searching Google. His books are also published in Spanish.
Thank you all for making this one of my most popular posts. I love sharing my digital art :D
